Teresa Castro Martín
Teresa Castro Martín is a Research Professor in Social Demography at CSIC in Madrid. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has previously worked as a Population Affairs Officer at the United Nations Population Division. Her research focuses on the causes and consequences of lowest-low fertility and latest-late union formation in Southern Europe, on global changes in family patterns, on the links between family structure and social inequality in Latin America, and on sexual and reproductive health issues. Her work seeks to integrate life course, gender and social stratification perspectives into the study of family and fertility dynamics. She has recently been a Fellow at the Wissenshaftskolleg zu Berlin (2021/2022).

Julia Cordero Coma
Julia Cordero is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the UCM and is also a Doctor-member of the Juan March Institute of Social Sciences. She has been a postdoctoral researcher at Pompeu Fabra University and at the European University Institute (Florence) within the Max Weber program for postdoctoral studies. She has been a predoctoral researcher at the CSIC and has completed a master’s degree in Population at FLACSO (Mexico). Her research focuses on family dynamics and inequalities in education and health and has been published in Journal of Marriage and Family, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Demographic Research and Social Science and Medicine, among others.
WORKING TEAM

Wanda Cabella
Wanda Cabella is an anthropologist (Universidad de la República, Udelar, Uruguay) and holds a PhD in demography (Unicamp, Brazil). She currently teaches and researches at the Population Program of the School of Social Sciences (Udelar) as a full professor. Her main research topics focus on the analysis of family change, nuptiality, and reproductive behaviour in Uruguay and Latin America. She is principal investigator of the I + D group project «Well-being, family change, and parental roles» (Family Studies Group, CSIC-Udelar funding 2023-2027).

Joeun Kim
Dr. Joeun Kim is an Assistant Professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in Sejong, South Korea. Her research centers on gender, low fertility, and health, with a specific emphasis on South Korea. Dr. Kim earned her Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from Pennsylvania State University.
Beyond her academic role, Dr. Kim actively engages in public service. She serves as a Committee Member on the Subcommittee for Gender Equality within the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. Additionally, she is a member of the Special Committee on Gender Conflict for the Presidential Committee on National Cohesion, as well as a Committee Member on Population Policy for Sejong City.
Dr. Kim’s expertise is evident in her publications. Noteworthy among them is her recent work, «Antifeminist Sentiments and Marital Desire among Young Men,» published in Socius. Her contributions to the field of gender, low fertility, and health have also been featured in journals such as the Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Forces, and the Journal of Adolescent Health.

Benoît Laplante
Benoît Laplante is a sociologist and demographer. He is a full professor at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique in Montreal, Canada. He is interested in family demography. His work focuses on the choice between cohabitation and marriage, the comparative fertility of cohabitation and marriage, fertility intentions and family policy. He studies Canada and Latin American countries, often on a comparative basis.

Young-Mi Kim
Young-Mi Kim is Associate Professor of Sociology at Yonsei University. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Cornell University in the U.S. She is currently the director of the Yonsei Institute for Gender Studies. Her research interests include social stratification, gender inequality in the labor market and organization, and demographic changes, and she has published numerous articles on these topics in Work and Occupations, Journal of Marriage and Family, Sociological Perspectives. She is also interested in social innovation education from a gender perspective and organizing diversity and inclusion professional networks.

Ignacio Pardo
Dr. Ignacio Pardo is a Professor at the Population Programme (Universidad de la República, Uruguay), where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses, mostly on Demography, Research Design and Population and Development, and supervises graduate students. His research interests revolve around low fertility, family change, and population policy. He was President of the Latin American Population Association (2019-2020).

Cristina Suero García
Cristina Suero is currently a final year PhD student at the Carlos III University of Madrid. Since September 2023, she is working for the ERC-funded project BIC.Late project within the Department of Demography of the University of Vienna. Her research focuses on understanding the differences in fertility behaviours according to social background in low fertility contexts. She also studies the causes and consequences of late fertility, as well as the use of medically assisted reproduction. Additionally, Cristina is interested in exploring other topics related to family sociology and social demography, including family and partnership formation patterns and new forms of families. During her doctoral studies, she took part in the LowFer Project at the Spanish National Research Council, which aimed to analyze the patterns of lowest-low and latest-late fertility in Spain. Cristina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Sciences, and a Master of Science in Methodology of Research in Social Sciences. Her research has been published in top scientific journals in the field of Demography, such as Genus or Comparative Population Studies.
